Welcome to Larpenteur Animal Hospital
Ticks are common parasites that can be found anywhere, from the deep woods to urban parks. Due to our mild winter and unseasonably warm temperatures, ticks will be out in full force! Each year, thousands of dogs become infected with serious diseases transmitted by a number of different ticks. Diseases like ehrlichiosis, Lyme disease, anaplasmosis and others.
Generally known as vector-borne disease, the risks they pose to your dog can be minimized with preventative measures (topical medications, tick collars, etc.) and annual exams including vector-borne disease screening. This is especially important, as symptoms of vector-borne disease are often vague and difficult to recognize. Because of this, diagnosis and treatment are often delayed unnecessarily.
Remember to inspect your dog and every family member for ticks after enjoying outdoor activities and watch your dog for symptoms such as, lameness, lethargy and swollen or painful joints.
